Kuala Lumpur 2013

We've made some close friends since we've been in Australia, and we were delighted to be invited to Diane and Damo's wedding - to be held in Langkawi.

We went to Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur, the very humid but great capital city of Malaysia.  Luckily there are air conditioned walkways between the shopping centres so you don't actually have to be out in the heat much at all!  the shopping was amazing - with huge shopping centres with lots of shops that we miss from the UK - stocked up on undies form M&S!

One night while we were there we went to the Sky Bar in the Traders Hotel and met up with the bride and groom to be, friends of the groom, and friends that we had made in Australia who now live in the UK!  The bar had amazing views of the Petronas Towers, and it was lovely to get to know people before the wedding day.

While in Kuala Lumpur we visited Batu Caves. Batu Caves, is a limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, in the Gombak district, 13 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur.  Rising almost 100 m above the ground, the Batu Caves temple complex consists of three main caves and a few smaller ones. The biggest, referred to as Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave, has a very high ceiling and features ornate Hindu shrines. To reach it, we climbed a steep flight of 272 steps.  The site is also well known for its macaque monkeys, which to be honest was the best bit for us!!!

Another day we went up the Petronas Towers, and walked across the sky bridge - the world's highest double-decked bridge linking the towers at levels 41 and 42, 170 metres above the ground.

We were then able to go up to the 86th floor, with amazing views:

The rest of our time in Kuala Lumpur was mainly spent in shopping centres!

KL was great, but only the beginning of our holiday - next stop, Langkawi!........
