Cellar Door

Launched in 1993, the annual Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is one of Victoria’s hallmark events. Each March the festival celebrates Melbourne and Victoria’s vibrant food and wine culture in a fortnight-long program of over 250 events.   Operating on a not-for-profit basis, the festival’s charter is to promote the quality produce, talent and lifestyle of Melbourne and Victoria, and to reinforce Melbourne as the food and wine capital of Australia.

Not unsurprisingly, the event that I chose to go to was the Cellar Door at Southgate.  Victoria boasts more than 800 wineries across 21 regions - more than anywhere else in Australia.  It was a really hot, sunny afternoon for it and there were 92 stalls set up along the Southbank Promenade - more than enough wine to keep 7 ladies very happy - topped off with a foot long pizza at the 'World' restaurant to soak some of it up!
